Evaluating GwyrddNi

We’re delighted to announce that Afallen has been appointed to evaluate the exciting next stage of the GwyrddNi project – a Gwynedd-based, community-led movement, embedding climate actions across five communities.

We have previously evaluated a wide range of projects, from tourism activities on Ynys Môn, to supporting refugees in Swansea. We’re really excited about this evaluation, because it specified the use of the developmental evaluation methodology that chimes with our support for communities and grass-roots activities.

We were also inspired by the call for the use of a creative methodology. We hope to embed open source solutions into our delivery. In a previous project to map local food networks in Swansea, we used an open source mapping tool called ‘UMap’. We’re keen to ensure we use the right ethical platform for each project.

The GwyrddNi project, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund, has demonstrated plenty of activity in its first iteration. It delivered four climate assemblies during 2022-2023. The project is being co-delivered by:

Mari Arthur will be leading this project, supported by a local team, all fluent Welsh speakers. We build local teams around each project we deliver, providing work opportunities for young and experienced alike, harnessing local expertise and developing graduates and apprentices. This is a key part of Afallen’s methodology – keeping money and skills in the regions and communities across Wales.
